Tata Hexa review

Earlier we had reported that Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its next flagship SUV, Tata Hexa in the Indian car market in 2016. Based on the home-grown carmaker's not so successful premium SUV Aria, the Hexa comes with bolder design language and sharper cosmetic features thanks to Tata's HORIZONEXT philosophy. According to recent reports Tata Motors will be showcasing the SUV at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo and is also planning to launch the Hexa around mid-2016.
Tata Hexa was first unveiled in its concept form earlier in March this year, at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Later on the SUV was spotted testing in India on several occasions, which further confirmed Tata Motors' agenda to launch the SUV next year. Recently the carmaker announced its decision to launch two new products every fiscal, and judging by these new developments, the Hexa will surely be the first Tata product to be launched in 2016-17 fiscal.

Talking about its exterior design and looks, as mentioned above, the Tata Hexa does remind you a lot of the Tata Aria. That being said, the SUV does come with a host of new features that make it stand out from its predecessor. For instance, the front fascia of the Tata Hexa comes with some new style cues like - the bulge on the bonnet, aggressively designed projector headlamps, large honey-comb pattern grille underlined by a U-shaped chrome slat and a muscular front bumper that houses a large air dam along with big air intakes and horizontal LED fog lamps.

As for its interiors, the Tata Hexa will be a six-seater with three-row configuration and the middle section will comprise of captain seats. The SUV is likely to offer plush leather seats with twin-needle stitching and some other new features along with a compact multi-functional steering wheel unit. The concept showcased in Geneva had ambient mood lighting inside the cabin along with a large hi-resolution touchscreen infotainment system.

Under the hood, the new Tata Hexa is expected to be powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, VARICOR diesel unit that produces 154 bhp and 400 Nm of peek torque. It is the same engine that currently powers the top-of-the-line Tata Safari Storme VX. Transmission duties will be taken care of by the newly developed six-speed manual gearbox, while Tata might also introduce an automatic transmission with the SUV.
