Google Play Gift Cards Now Available via Snapdeal, More Physical Stores

.

Google back in June introduced Google Play prepaid vouchers (aka Google Play Gift Cards) in the Indian market. The company has now announced the wider availability of the Google Play prepaid vouchers via physical retail outlets across India. Google has announced that people in India can now buy the Google Play Gift Cards from various stores including Spice Hotspot, Vijay Sales, Planet M, Planet Mobile and Sangeetha Mobiles.

Earlier, the Google Play prepaid vouchers were available in three options: Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000, and Rs. 1,500. Now, the company has announced that the Google Play Gift cards will be available in Rs. 750, Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 1,500 denominations. The gift cards can also be purchased on Snapdeal, which will even offer consumers COD (cash-on-delivery) shipments.

The Google Play prepaid voucher can be used to purchase digital content such as apps, games, in-app purchases, and ebooks, apart from rent or buy movies on the Google Play store.

User can redeem the Google Play prepaid voucher by entering the gift card code on play.google.com/redeem page, or on their Android device through the Google Play app, via the Redeem option.

Commenting on the availability, Saurabh Agarwal, Head of Retail Partnerships - Google Play, India said in an official blog post, "We hope the increased availability of Google Play Gift Cards will make it easier for users to enjoy your favourite movies, books, magazines, apps, and games across all your devices. Users in India can buy games like Prince of Persia at Rs. 10 or get big discounts on movies like The Great Gatsby or Sherlock Holmes during this promotion."

The prepaid vouchers or gift cards were introduced by Google in the US back in 2012, and have since seen a slow rollout across the world. The launch of physical gift cards ahead of festive season in India will give consumers an option to gift friends and family offering Google Play store credits. With this users will no longer have to rely on electronic payment to make Google Play purchases or rentals - and can instead use cash at the stores that sell the vouchers.
